This unique 6-day class offers each student the chance to explore their own design talent. You will arrive the first day of class with the joinery completed and parts assembled in block form; a blank slate for your own creative design. Andy will spend time with each student discussing and honing their design ideas. This introductory 2-day class is being offered prior to each major class of 2009. It is designed to give each student the opportunity to learn and practice some of the unique skills associated with the techniques of sculptural woodworking. Students will appreciate the confidence gained through this skill-building seminar and practice time before they start their larger project.
Students signing up for any chair class are highly encouraged (though not required) to sign up for this additional class. In this seminar you will be introduced to many of Andy’s techniques for sculptural woodworking such as: power grinding, convex shaping, concave shaping, sandshaping, precision joinery, etc. The following day you will be practicing some of your new-found skills.
“Harmony” Dining Room Chair -$1,250

Your dining room is sure to be the favorite room in your home after you build a set of these beautiful chairs. Designed specifically for those students who will have access to a shop after returning home, you will build the first of these chairs while at CSFW in this 6-day class. Then you can return home with the plans, knowledge and experience to complete your set. The blending of the clean lines and the sculptural form in this fine dining chair is an artful expression of the harmony of both form and function and will soon become the favorite place for gatherings of friends and loved ones.
“Heritage” Sculpted Keepsake Box –$395

Offered as a “first experience to sculptural woodworking”, this 3-day class give a novice woodworker a safe environment to try their hand at sculpting wood. We will be using similar techniques as other classes but on a scaled-down level. You will be encouraged as you expand your woodworking skills from straight lines to sensuous curves. After this class is over, you will have a beautiful and treasured gift to share with someone special; a heritage to pass on for generations.
